At regular intervals, you may want to remind approval workflow users of overdue requests that they must react on. For more information, see How to: Send Overdue Approval Notifications.

When you run the Send Overdue Approval Notifications function, the program checks for all open approval entries that are currently overdue. For each approver that has at least one overdue approval entry, the program sends an email with the list of all their overdue approval entries. The email will be Cc-ed to their approver and all the requesters of the overdue approvals. This helps if the overdue approval entry must be delegated to a substitute.

To see notification entries for overdue approval requests, see How to: View Overdue Approval Requests.

Depending on your setup of workflow notifications, approval notifications may include a list of all outstanding approvals, and not just new ones requiring approval. The notification will be based on SMTP-email. For more information, see Setting Up Workflow Notifications.

Tip
It is advised that you set this function up to run periodically in a job queue. For more information, see How to: Set Up Job Queues.
