Certifications
While they may appear similar to Skill Codes, Certification Codes should be used to further qualify the skill of a person. A Skill Code is used to define the suitability of a person to perform a step in the maintenance process. For example; assume you have a piece of equipment that requires maintenance as specified by the equipment manufacturer. Further, the manufacturer requires that your technician(s) be certified (by the manufacturer through classes, tests or similar) before the manufacturer will allow that person to perform maintenance. If you use an uncertified person to perform maintenance, there may be some downside or penalty from the manufacturer.
Certification Codes may assist you in avoiding the downside by keeping track of Certifications relevant to Personnel and the operating environment. To access or maintain Certification Codes, select the Certifications option from the drop down selection. You may define one, none or multiple Certification Codes for the resource.
These codes may help determine the suitability of a resource to perform a maintenance task. When you set up "steps" for your maintenance activities (see the chapter on Work Procedures for further information) you may choose to "require" a specific Certification Code for the procedure.
